•Substance abuse
•Do not rely solely on self-report of no suicidal ideation
•Recent interpersonal loss
•Impulsivity and aggression
•Family history of suicide
•Recent discharge from a psychiatric hospital
•History of physical and sexual abuse
If you are aware of someone who contemplates suicide, the first concern is that of the safety of the person at risk and the people around him/her. The second concern is to get the best available medical intervention. The medical doctor will refer the person to an appropriate specializing professional.
